Get a journal. Use it for recording your past with alcohol. Use it to list your goals. Use it to record activities that you wish to try. Use it to track your progress. Use it to list your triggers. Use it to get out your feelings and frustrations.

Commit to being alcohol-free. Rid your house of alcohol. Tell family and friends what you are doing and ask for their support.

Listen to your inner positive voice. Incorporate affirmations into your daily routine. Use meditation to get ready for each day and to unwind from each day. Use activities to fill your free time. Try exercise to get your body back in shape.

Check-in with yourself. Review your past and use the things you have learned. Examine the triggers that lead you to alcohol. Select a few bad memories from your drinking days to remind you of why you don't want to go back to that life again. Come up with a vision of your alcohol-free life. Set goals to attain that vision. Use affirmations to remind you of the steps to each goal. Use your journal to check off the progress you have made.

Make alcohol-free choices. Base your relationships on being alcohol-free. Select alcohol-free activities, events, and places. As you feel steadier in your alcohol-free life, reassess these things. Add to and take away based on what keeps you alcohol-free.

Check-in with a support group or designate a family member or friend as your go-to support. Talk about what you are going through. Use your journal. Lean on others when you need to. Remember that you don't have to go through this alone.
